Keepeek - How do I configure the XMP, IPTC, and EXIF metadata for a media file when importing or exporting it?
The purpose of this article is to explain how to configure settings in the Keepeek back office to retrieve XMP, IPTC and EXIF metadata from media files. For example, to automatically fill in certain fields on the media sheet when importing files. Or, when downloading, to associate values present in the Keepeek back office with the exported file at the metadata level. You can find information on the IPTC fields that can be used on the iptc.org website. For EXIF metadata, you can find information on the following wikipédia page.
Configure incoming metadata to automatically retrieve a value when importing media into Keepeek.
1/ In the list of record fields (Settings >> Record fields), select the field for which you wish to retrieve a value from the metadata of the imported file.
2/ In the "Metadata Management" tab, set up the metadata you want to call up to automatically write values in the selected field and press "Save". If you enter multiple metadata, the Keepeek back office will follow the order of the list. If it does not find a value associated with the first metadata, it will move on to the next metadata, and so on. See the example below for the title field.
3/ Import media into Keepeek to see if the relevant field is automatically filled in.
Configure outgoing metadata to retrieve a value associated with a Keepeek field in order to integrate it into the metadata of the exported file.
Before describing the different steps, it should be noted that this setup only applies to custom download formats, not express downloads. Here are the steps to follow:
1/ In the list of record fields (Settings >> Record fields), select the field from which you wish to retrieve a value to include in the metadata on the exported file.
2/ In the "Metadata management" tab, set up the outgoing metadata to which you wish to export the value of a Keepeek field.
3/ Next, select the relevant export formats (via the Settings>Formats menu) and, in the "Metadata management" tab, tick the "Update metadata with record information" option and press "Save".
4/ Select a media file, then a custom format affected by this setting, and download it. On the exported file, you can check this metadata using tools such as exiftool or Photoshop to see if the value of the metadata in question has been updated with the one in the Keepeek field.
In conclusion, if you would like a concrete example of how to use and exploit metadata linked to imported files, you can consult the FAQ Exploiting metadata from imported files.
